mergedexternal1aA A new sign has appeared at the SealawnsA new sign has appeared at the Sea Lawn stating that permission has been granted under Section 80 of the Buildings Act 1984. This has nothing to do with getting planning for the development. Here's the act

New plans have been submitted for the building of flats at the Sea Lawns.

Details of the planning application can be found here http://vog.planning-register.co.uk/PlaRecord.aspx?AppNo=2010/00147/ful

There has been a meeting of residents and it is mostly being objected to for the following reasons

The main issues of concern raised by local people so far are

1) the loss of our last village pub would be damaging to village life

2) the scale, form and character of the development is unacceptable

3) the will be a detrimental effect on tourism in the Vale of Glamorgan

4) additional peak time traffic flows will cause problems in Slon Lane

5) the sewers serving the site are already over capacity

6) local employment opportunities will be lost

There is also a campaign site here http://www.sealawnscampaign.com/index.html

Archived Sealawns News

There has been a lot of talk about the Sea Lawns Hotel, and the proposals for demolition and the building of flats in it's place.

Here is some information and reports that have been publicised in various places, that may help you to see what all the fuss is about. This is not the campaign site, it is just information and links regarding the planning and appeal.

Most recently: Monday 4th Feb 08 there was a meeting at the Heronston Hotel between Lyn Powell , a planning consultant representing John Williams owner of the boarded up Sealawns and the Village Hall Association. The meeting was to discuss Mr Williams making it known that he was prepared to consider sharing some of the profits from his developments with the VHA to build a village hall. This apparently was due to advice that there are provisions for this kind of thing under The result of this meeting seems to be that the villagers want a Pub and a Village Hall and that therefore if a proposal was put forward it would not get any support from the majority of villagers.
